Negative calories explained

Sometimes you see the term 'negative calories. Foods that burn more energy than they contain. How does this work?

Some products such as cabbage and celery sprouts contain very few calories and lots of fiber. Your body burns more energy digesting them than they contain. A good example is celery. It contains 7 calories per 100 grams. You should eat more than 28 kilos of celery to meet your daily energy requirements.

Thermogenesis is the energy you need to burn your food. And although the idea of negative calories is nice, the above mentioned vegetables contain no negative calories, though they are extremely low fat.
